Christainsburg to Lexington, Virginia |
Tuesday, Sept 30, 2003, 7:30am EDT
"......Jack Frost nipping at your nose .."
Another 7:30 departure, and the temp is 36 degrees.
I am bundled up with everything I can get on. I look like the Pillsbury Doughboy.
Wouldn't you know it. A mile after we leave the motel, there's a 2 mile down
hill - 30MPH. Figure the wind chill on that. Two hours later my toes thaw.
Are we having fun, or what?
By mid morning it's warm enough to shed the extra clothes, and the remainder
of the day is pleasant.
The route was from Christiansburg to Lexington and provided us with a variety
sights and challenges. The only real challenge was working our way through
the Roanoke-Salem area - traffic, stop lights, left turns, pot holes. Lesser
men would have faltered. Let's see...what else? Oh, we rode next to the interstate
on a frontage road for ten miles, passed through some picture postcard rural
settings, and rode over the world famous Natural Bridge of VA. What a country!
Quadman is feeling guilty about the last two days being too easy. So,tomorrow
we hit ourselves on the thumb. Standby for a report on masochists riding the
Blue Ridge Parkway.

bbowe sez........my temp at departure was 72 degrees with a heated seat -
don't know what quadman is "whining" about! Hilite of my day besides
sagging was meeting Michael and Veronica at Natural Bridge - they know where
beautiful downtown Ball Ground, GA is. They now live in Knoxville, and it
helped that Mike was born in Canton, GA which is a 'suburb' of Ball Ground.
On to Charlottesville tomorrow which is my last stop with the "J"
riders. Hope they make the "grade" to the Parkway!" See ya
tomorrow evening................bb
